From One Event, a Mission Was Born
Eyob Daniel 1977 – 2019
Eyob was a thinker, writer, artist, and humanitarian whose life was guided by curiosity, faith, compassion, and a deep love for people.
Born in 1977, he approached the world with both an analytical mind and an open heart. He was fascinated by philosophy, logic, language, and faith, spending countless hours exploring life’s biggest questions through writing and study. He believed that reason and faith were not opposing forces, but complementary paths toward truth and understanding.
Eyob shared an especially close bond with his mother and older sister. Together they lived, traveled, and explored different parts of the world, building a rich life filled with adventure, discovery, and meaningful experiences. These experiences shaped his global outlook and nurtured the curiosity and openness that would remain with him throughout his life.
Fluent in English, French, and Amharic, Eyob connected easily with people from different cultures and backgrounds. He had a rare ability to engage in thoughtful conversation while making others feel heard and valued. He was known for seeing the best in people, often believing in them even when they struggled to believe in themselves.
A lifelong reader, Eyob found joy in books, ideas, and the written word. He wrote poetry throughout his life and was continually inspired by literature, philosophy, and faith. He also had a deep love of music and appreciated a wide range of genres and traditions. His creativity extended into the visual arts as well. An avid painter and photographer, he exhibited his work in several shows in and around Geneva, where he lived and worked for a time. Whether through writing, photography, painting, or music, he sought to understand and celebrate the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
His professional life reflected his commitment to service. During his years working within the United Nations system, he contributed to global efforts to combat AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, helping support programs that brought critical resources to vulnerable communities around the world.
Above all, Eyob loved his family. He was a devoted son, brother, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, generosity, and quiet strength touched the lives of those around him. The values that shaped his life—compassion, dignity, service, faith, and hope—continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
When Eyob passed away in 2019, he left behind a legacy far greater than his accomplishments. He left an example of a life lived with purpose and integrity, dedicated to both the pursuit of truth and the service of others.
The Eyob Foundation was established in his memory to carry that legacy forward by supporting children and families in need throughout Ethiopia. But the foundation was born from something more personal as well. In the midst of the profound grief and loss felt by those who loved him, a simple idea emerged: to transform that pain into something that could bring hope to others. Rather than allowing sorrow to have the final word, the family chose to create a lasting source of compassion, opportunity, and service in Eyob’s name.
Through education, community support, and humanitarian initiatives, the foundation seeks to be a blessing to others while honoring the values that guided Eyob throughout his life.
In serving others, we celebrate not only his memory, but also the belief that even in loss, something beautiful can grow. Through acts of kindness, generosity, and hope, Eyob’s legacy continues to touch lives far beyond those who knew and loved him.
At the Eyob & Family Holistic Development Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable communities in Ethiopia through positive, sustainable action. Our mission is to bridge the gap for those most in need by providing essential access to healthcare, education, and professional capacity development.
Today, this mission is guided by the core principles that defined his life:
In the wake of 2019, those who knew him best didn't just mourn; they mobilized. Immersing themselves in his unfinished manuscripts—those explorations of Bertrand Russell and the complexities of logic—they realized that Eyob’s life was itself a profound argument for a higher purpose. He had spent his years convincing the world’s most skeptical minds that faith and reason were not enemies, but two halves of the same whole.
"Together, we can turn compassion into lasting transformation."

The foundation’s unique Strengthen the Roots (STR) approach doesn’t just offer temporary aid; it builds the foundation for thriving, self-sufficient communities. By focusing on the "roots" of vulnerability, EFHDF-EYA ensures that change is permanent and inclusive.
